This tour is pleasant anytime the weather cooperates and is fun for all ages. It is designed as an art walk. If you bike or drive, you'll need to adjust the directions to comply with a couple of one-way streets; see the map below.

Begin at Weaver Street Market.

Art can be seen all around Weaver St.

Our neighborhoods are full of treasures.

There is a lot to enjoy in Carr Mill Mall, too.
Begin your walk at Weaver Street Market (101 E. Weaver), which is a very popular hangout in Carrboro. Here you can buy a drink to get you energized or a picnic to take with you. Before you leave, be sure to take a look at the sidewalk mosaic and the sculpture "Pressure Release" in the water garden. (A)

Now, head west, straight down Weaver Street, where you'll see all kinds of interesting sculpture and architectural details. Since you'll be returning along a different street, be sure to wander across the street from time to time to catch both sides. A few of the projects are the "dinosaur" sculpture across from the Century Center, sculptures at 301 Weaver, and the railing of Cycling Specifics's porch. (B)

Once you get to the end of the street, stop in the NC Crafts Gallery, where you'll find an assortment of crafts from artists in our state including the pottery for which we are famous, jewelry, wall hangings, metal work, and much more. (C)

After your visit to NC Crafts Gallery, which is on the corner of Weaver and Main, cross Weaver Street and walk north up West Main. If you have time, cross the street again and see what is on display at Town Hall, including the Mandala of Peace, in front, then cross Main again to continue the walk up Main Street. (D)

At the corner of Main and Poplar Avenue, you'll find a fabulous collection of work by Mike Roig behind his and Clay Carmichael's Heartworks Studio. (E)

Continue up Main just a bit, take a right onto Hillsborough St. and a right at Carrboro Methodist, and walk down to Carrboro Elementary to see the critters that live in their garden. If you are traveling by car or bike, you'll need to follow the instructions posted below the map because of the one-way streets. (F)

Now, it's time to enjoy a shady walk through the neighborhood. Carrboro Elementary is on Shelton Street. You'll be walking up the wrong way of a one-way, so be careful. Take a right at Ashe (also a one-way street) and notice the painted door of the little white house on your right (pictured left). At Poplar, take a left and walk straight up this street. (G)

Poplar ends at Southern States. Take a right onto Greensboro Street (if you can resist this award winning garden center), and walk up to Carr Mill Mall. Enter through the door on the parking lot, right-hand side, and you'll see Stephen White Graphics and the Wootini "Mysterious Cavalcade of Oddities." Inside the mall there are several places for refreshment, and children will enjoy the Ali Cat toy store and its mural. (H)

If you parked at Carr Mill, you can end your tour here; if not, walk through the exit at the other side of the mall and enjoy another seated lady sculpture after you pass through the door and "Voluptuary," another Mike Roig piece, at Weaver Street Market. (I)
Town of Carrboro public parking lots are shaded grey.
