CARRBORO VISITOR CENTER | couples:
you row, i'll read

This is a weekend (Friday-Monday) itinerary designed for the pair who has one person who likes to fish or boat and another who prefers settling down with a good book (or their music).

Nice Price Books also sells CDs.

Sunscreen & picnic food are available at Weaver Street Market

University Lake has row boats, paddle boats, and motors for rent.
(1) The closest place to buy fishing equipment is the Great Outdoor Provision Co. in Chapel Hill at Eastgate (see map below). If you are over 16 years old, a fishing license is required, and you can buy a license online or call 1-888-248-6834.

(2) For the reader or music enthusiast in your pair, Nice Price Books, just off E. Main Street at 100 Boyd St., offers used books and an eclectic selection of music. The PTA Thrift Shop at 115 W. Main St. also has an ample array of books, with new ones appearing daily.

(3) Another stop for reading materials is Carr Mill Mall, where you can buy paperbacks at CVS or magazines at Weaver Street Market, which is also a place to find ingredients for a picnic. Don't forget the sunscreen and bug repellent, which WSM also sells, or stock up
at  Townsend, Bertram and Company, a store full of outdoor apparel and gear that also rents camping equipment for farther adventures.

(4) Now, it's time to head to our local lake, University Lake, off E. Old Fayetteville Rd. The lake is open Friday-Monday, 6:30am-6pm, including summer holidays.

Parking is right near the lake as well as a picnic shelter, restrooms, and vending machines. For the reader(s) in your group, it can be a bit noisy on the lawn (there is a kennel nearby), so you may want to join your partner in the boat or rent your own.

Another option just a bit farther,  is Cane Creek Reservoir, off Highway 54. It also has a nature trail. (NC Game & Fish article)
