This is a weekend tour designed for guests who would like to add to their herb collection or simply visit the wonderfully scented atmospheres surrounding these gardening venues.

(The Farmers' Market is now open year-round; winter hours are 9am-noon.)

Start with coffee at Open Eye Cafe.

Try Fifth Season across the street.

Then head to the Farmers' Market
and more.
Open your eyes to this adventure with a cup of coffee and pastries at Open Eye Cafe at S. Greensboro & Roberson Streets. They open at 7am Mon-Sat & 8am Sundays. (A)

Then, go across the street to Fifth Season Gardening at 106 S. Greensboro to find either the perfect base for your new potted herb garden or an accessory for a garden you've already started. Fifth Season is a unique gardening shop that specializes in hydroponics and organic gardening. On Saturdays they are open 9am-5pm. (B)

Now, put your purchases in your car or bike basket and go up Greensboro St. towards town, make a left on Weaver, and head straight to the Farmers' Market (Saturdays 7am-noon), where you'll find several vendors selling herbs. Be sure to buy some extra ingredients for the recipes they have on the table. (C)

To reach stop four, head back up Weaver St. the way you came and take a left at Greensboro St. until you see the Southern States garden center on the right (about three blocks), where they also sell herbs and a nice variety of annuals, perennials, and accessories. You can park there or at Carr Mill, which is the next and last stop. (D)

Are you ready for a rest? It should be time for lunch now (or at least brunch), so put your new plants in a shady spot and walk or ride to Carr Mill Mall, which is back down Greensboro St. at Weaver St. Panzanella opens at 11:30am and specializes in using local ingredients, including fresh herbs. If you are early, be sure to visit Uptown Nature, which offers a fun collection of gifts for the gardener. (E)
