Give something truly special to your loved ones this year - something you've handcrafted. For inspiration, this tour begins with a viewing of beautifully crafted jewelry at the NC Crafts Gallery, takes you to a few more shops, then leads you to the bead store to choose materials for making your own works of art.

The NC Crafts Gallery has parking accessible from Main St. or Weaver.
inspiration and purchase.
The Original Ornament has tables and walls full of beads and findings.
Now, either ride or stroll east down Weaver Street. Whether you have little ones or not, a stop at The Red Hen (201 Weaver) is a treat because they carry jewelry by English Hill Designs. The jewelry is in the back, near the register. (B)
The next stop, Carr Mill Mall, is at the corner of Weaver and Greensboro Streets. There is ample parking in the back (from Weaver, turn left onto Greensboro Street and then again at the second right). Inside, be sure to visit Shades of Blue, because of the beautiful glass, and for more ideas, stop by Jewelworks.
Are you inspired? If you want to take time for a little designing before you start your project, or you just need a break, select a snack at Katie's Pretzels or a meal at Panzanella or Elmo's Diner. The shade trees in front of Weaver Street Market also offer a nice respite.
Now, it's time to make your own piece of art. Across from Jewelworks is The Original Ornament bead store. Here you can either browse for beads and findings to take home or fill a tray and make your piece right at the store. There is a table in the back of the shop where you can work, they have reference books and sample jewelry, and the staff is helpful. They also offer classes.
